Aegean Airlines Hints & Tips

Aegean Airlines Gold status match

Aegean Airlines Gold status is a real perk - and one that is well worth having.

Aegean used to hand these out like sweets to anyone who had any status with any other airline. No longer - Aegean status match is no longer an option. The scheme has been closed. Mind you for Aegean Miles&Bonus Gold Status you just need 20,000 miles, or 16,000 miles within one year from the date which you qualified for Blue status, so you can easily tick this off with just one flight from Australia to the UK and back in economy: it really isn't that hard.

Codeshares

You’ll see some Aegean flights to some pretty distant places – for example you can fly as far as Sydney on an Aegean codeshare. Make no mistake though, this will be on Singapore Airlines, and it will rouote you Athens, Frankfurt, and Singapore.

In the premium classes, these codeshares can come in amazingly cheap - fancy Business Class for just 1500 euro to Australia?

The only hard part is getting the Aegean website to cough up these flights, and then to price them: this is really hard, as the website will often respond that there are no seats - just because there are no tickets left in the price bucket it would like to sell you.

Aegean Airlines website

The Aegean Airlines website is pretty basic. It is possible to book fares ok, and the site will list the prices for alternative flights that day (but doesn't check other days). You can now even Select your seat online. however there is very little information on the what else Aegean Airlines does, the routes, or the planes. There are plenty of "extras" on the right hand side though, with Car Hire and Gift Vouchers, although sadly the "book a lounge" option has gone.

More worrying the main Aegean Airlines logo changes from page to page, font sizes can be a little wild, and some pages contain pretty much no information at all. However the truly woeful part of the website is the slow loading. On a fast dialup connection it takes about 2 minutes to load just the main page - and it won't allow you to cache any of it. Bad design, and poor performance.
