Emirates has opened a new lounge at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport. It is a joint lounge for first and business class passengers, and is the airline's 30th global lounge. 28th May 2012

Emirates has opened a new Business and First Class lounge at San Francisco international airport. The lounge is a joint Business and First lounge, and takes all the elements of the standard Dubai lounge, including the large dining area and excellent bar.

Cathay Pacific have opened a new Business and First Class lounge at San Francisco international airport. The lounge is a joint Business and First lounge, and takes all the elements of the Hong Kong Cabin lounge, but compresses them into a small room, including the noodle bar and the famous Solus Chair.

bmi is being sold by Lufthansa to International Airlines Group (IAG), which owns British Airways and Iberia. Details are very unclear at this stage, and no information has been given of how much will be paid for the loss-making airline..

Turkish Airlines reopen Business Class lounge at Istanbul

Turkish Airlines has opened the doors to its new Business Class lounge at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. The lounge has a patisserie, massage & relaxation rooms, shower facilities, a library with pool table, a movie room and popcorn, occupies 3000 square meters, and is designed for 2000 passengers a day.

Cathay Pacific revamp The Wing Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific are now halfway through their rebuild of their iconic The Wing lounge at Hong Kong. Half of the Business Class Lounge, located on Level 6, has reopened following an extensive renovation.

New Miami lounge for AA, BA & Iberia

The newly opened lounge is pretty similar to most AA lounges, although the facilities are marginally better, with 6,000 square feet and offers seating for 120 guests.

Delta: new premium economy seating

Delta Air Lines is to introduce premium economy seating – of a kind – on some of its long haul routes. Delta are simply moving a few of their economy seats 4 inches further apart, giving 4 inches more pitch, this means the recline increases from 20 degrees to 30 degrees, or an extra 50%. Width is the same.

Cathay Pacific: new business class seats

Cathay Pacific has unveiled its new business class cabin, with longer wider seats. The new passenger-designed seats, which will be featured in all Airbus A330 and Boeing 777ER aircraft, are a significant step forward, and a move away from the older coffin like Business Class seats which were introduced a couple of years back. Cathay Pacific claim they “refine comfort, versatility and function offering both privacy and openness.

New Business Class JAL Sky Recliner seat

Japan Airlines will put into service, a brand new international executive class seat - the JAL Sky Recliner - when it receives four new Boeing 767-300ER aircraft from the manufacturer starting this month. The new 767s are also equipped with the most advanced version of JAL’s in-flight entertainment system.

British Airways has launched its new joint business with American Airlines and Iberia. There is good news for members of BA’s frequent flyer scheme the Executive Club, who can now earn full miles on cheap tickets and earn & redeem miles on AA, and mix and match fares from all the carriers.

Emirates A380 to Manchester

Manchester Airport sees the arrival of regular A380 services, with Emirates flying the world's largest passenger jet into the UK's second city. Emirates flew the 500-seat Airbus Superjumbo into Manchester at the start of its daily service to Dubai.

Virgin Blue and Etihad Airways have signed a partnership deal which will see V Australia launch direct services to Abu Dhabi in 2011. However, some of Virgin’s flights will be axed, as the planes move onto the new routes.

Emirates add wifi to A380

Emirates has finally committed to install Wifi and mobile phone equipment on its new Superjumbos. All 90 Emirates Airbus A380 aircraft will be with Wi-Fi networks allowing passengers to make mobile phone calls, download data and browse the Internet during flights.

More Qantas Premium Economy

Qantas are to retrofit six two class Boeing 747s to include 40 Premium Economy seats. The new offering will be available on the Tokyo route from October 2010 and the Frankfurt route from February 2011.

Lounge with Scalextric track opens at Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport’s new Escape Lounge in Terminal 1 has opened - featuring the usual delights of an airport lounge, and the slightly more unusual one of a Scalextric track. Over 100,000 passengers are expected to use the facility each year.

Jetstar joins Air France & KLM

Jetstar, the budget offshoot of Australian flag carrier Qantas, has announced an agreement with Air France-KLM which the airline hopes will expand its customer base in Europe. It is also expanding its New Zealand operations and considering direct long-haul flights to North America and Asia from New Zealand.

KLM launches à la carte catering

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will launch a pilot project offering what it calls "à la carte catering on board". In effect this means that passengers travelling in Economy Class can opt to pay more for meals that are almost business class in size.

Lufthansa launch A380 & new First Class

Lufthansa has launched maiden flights with its Airbus A380 superjumbo - and with it, unveil its newly developed First Class. The A380 has a total of 526 seats, including eight in First Class, 98 in Business Class and 420 in Economy Class.

Qantas strip out First Class

Qantas plans to strip out two-thirds of its First Class seating in response to the global slump in premium travel. It is part of a AU$400m plan to standardise seating across its long-haul fleet to match the product used within its double-decker Airbus A380s.

Air New Zealand is to remove business class seats from most of its aircraft flying between Australia, the Pacific Islands, and New Zealand. It also plans to slash fares trans-Tasman, and move to a new way of selling onboard perks on its new 171-seat single class Airbus A320s.

Air New Zealand's economy flatbed seats

Air New Zealand has come up with the "holy grail" for economy class seating - a flat bed in economy. It isn't quite a flatbed as you'd get in Business Class, but it will allow you to sleep totally horizontally on AirNZ's long flights over the Pacific.

bmi to cut Business Class

bmi are to implement a change in travel classes, to ensure passengers pay a lower rate of tax. Business Class is to be scrapped on Irish and UK services. The premium cabin was originally to be scrapped in 2005 when most other bmi services lost their forward cabin, however the financial community successfully campaigned for it to be retained.
