SriLankan Airlines inflight meals are like a welcome back to the old school: it's all free, and hot too!

The Trolley in Business SriLankan Airlines have this quaint style of just dumping everything on a trolley and you fill your plate.

In economy even on the shortest flights there are free, complementary, meals. For any flight longer than two hours there is a hot meal in a dish, all on a natty purple tray, with a starter and sweet dish too.

In business class things get slightly more complicated: there is a choice of three or four dishes on the menu - but what the menu doesn't explain is that you can have them all! All of the variants are loaded into what can only be called the 'trolley of slops' in the galley, wheeled out into the front of the cabin, and you help yourself to whatever you want.

The menu will typically have one western style dish, a Sri Lankan one and an Indian one, but of course in business that doesn't really matter: you can just take whatever you want to out of the trolley, and try a bit of each.

Ox and Melon starter

Four chunks of ox meat (cold) with spicy chili sauce.

Three squewers of melon. A lettice leaf. A tomato.

Garlic Bead with Ox and Melon starter

As above, but with the addition of two slices of garlic bread (tepid).

Steak in oyster sauce

Beef steak in oyster sauce, covered in a dash of cabbage.

Cheesey cauliflower and brocolli trimmings. Prawn rice.

Prawn and curry pasta

Two prawns, two fishcakes, madras curry to spice.

Fettuccine pasta with ultra spicy chilli.

Fruit Medley

Two slices of henydew melon, watermelon, and pineapple.

One grape.

Banana cake and coffee

A small, cold, banana cake in strawberry juice

Black coffee (instant). Chocolate.
