I am a frequent business traveler and regularly use all the major airlines with the exception of US Airways. I have avoided them because they arent preferred at my job and from horror stories from friends. After they merged with American I decided to give them a try on my vacation to Costa Rica. American is a great airline so if they are affiliated. how bad could it be? So, my vacation was supposed to start on Saturday 117 with flight 5461 from SJC to PHX at 9:55am. The gf and I took a taxi to the airport arriving 2 hours early as required for international flights. After checking bags and going through security we get to the gate to learn that our flight out has been delayed due to mechanical issues. First the delay was 30 minutes which would still allow us to make our connectionthen 2 hours.then 3 hours and finally cancelled altogether. Unfortunate, but not a huge dealanyone that travels at all knows this will happen occasionally on any airline. Also unfortunately, I booked a hotel in CR that night using Pricelinemeaning I couldnt get a refund. My mistake, again no big deal. We got a taxi home after rescheduling on the same flight Sunday morning. Sunday 118 we try again. Another taxi ride and airport hassle later we make it to PHX. Upon arriving at our gate, we are informed that flight 526 from PHX to SJO at 1:30 has been delayed because of mechanical issues. Again we are told not to worry, that we will make it to SJO on timethen we notice that they are taking our luggage back off the plane. The delay extends past 2 hours with no one at the terminal offering any information as to whats going on. Finally we are told that they are able to get us on another plane that is about to arrive from Reno. After boarding the plane the pilot announces that we have a fuel leak on engine #1 and they are working on it now. After sitting on the plane for over 2 hours we depart, 4 hours late. Really guys? 3 planes in a row with mechanical problems? We finally arrive in Costa Rica 4 hours late. We now have a 3.5 hour shuttle ride to our hotelbut instead of it costing 39.00, because of the hour we have to schedule private transfer costing 170.00. In case you are keeping track, your airline has now cost me 40 cabs, 100 for hotel that I couldnt get to, 130 for shuttle and a lost day and a half of vacation. Regardless I chalk it up to bad luck and enjoy whats left of my vacation. What are the chances of such a disaster happening again, right?Sunday 125 we head to SJO to come home on flight 539. This time we have over 2 hours scheduled in PHX to go through customs before connecting to SJCplenty of time for a normal airline, right? For reasons not made clear to us, we boarded over 30 minutes late. Once on the plane, the pilot informs us that we will be making an unplanned stop in Mazatlan to refuel. We are still on the ground at SJO at this point, why could we not get enough fuel there? Is gas cheaper in Mazatlan? Again, no one has any answers. After the delay and pit stop in Mexico, we make it to PHX with 45 mins to make the connection. We barely made it after running from terminal B to A. We didnt get a chance to eat and neither of the returning flights offered food even though the reservation said that food would be available for purchase. They did offer a free adult beverage for our troubletoo bad the gf and I dont drink.Throughout this ordeal I talked to several US Airways personnel on the 1800 reservations line as well as ticketing and gate agents. None offered me any compensation except for the advice that I need to make a huge fuss in order to get anything. I am not going to yell andor argue with people that have no control over the aircraft scheduling and maintenance, so I guess that means Im out of luck. I even got the US Airways credit cardluckily those miles will transfer over to American in the 2nd quarter. As an on and off AAL stockholder I really hope that American can get this worked out. Ive had much better experiences on budget airlines.

Boarding my flight today, I had to sit through the usual nonsense announcements that the flight is fully booked and overhead luggage storage is limited, so customers should come up to the podium to check their bags. In the past, I have ignored these pleas, and I have not had a problem. I never check my baggage if I can help it, because the best case is that you waste 30 to 45 minutes at your destination, waiting for your bags to come down the carousel. Worst case, the airline loses your baggage or locks it up and leaves for the day, because you make the mistake of going to the wash-room before going to the carousel. Today, US Airways didn't achieve their quota of checked baggage, so they decided to step it up a notch and report that one passenger has already come to the front of the airplane to check his baggage, because the overhead storage is completely full, so I dutifully went to the podium to check my bag. What do I find when I board the plane? Lots of available overhead storage. I am completely incensed at this behaviour and will not fly US Airways again if I can help it.

My wife recently flew from Wilmington NC (ILM) to Cleveland OH (CLE) going through Charlotte NC (CLT) both ways. On the return flight, her ticket said her flight into and out of CLT were on the same plane from the same gate. This seemed odd since typically US Airways lands at one end of CLT and has your connection at the farthest point away they can find. We questioned this on making the reservation, when she boarded in ILM to go to CLE, and when she boarded in CLE to return. All three times we were told it was accurate. The flight from CLE was delayed due to weather and arrived in CLT about 50 minutes late. The original layover was about 55 minutes. My wife made a comment to one of the flight crew that she was lucky she was leaving on the same plane. The flight crew person told her that plane was not moving for the rest of the night. US Airways had changed her flight plan in midair. Her connection was about 8 gates away, but had just left. It was a different flight number and a different gate. This was at about 11 pm and the next flight was not until morning. This was not the only flight at that time that US Airways screwed up since there were literally hundreds of people stranded for the night. US Airways was not accepting any blame for any of it and was not making any effort to compensate any of the passengers other than working to get them onto the morning flights. No hotel for the night, nothing. I drove 3.5 hours one way to save my wife from the ordeal of having to sleep in the terminal. I wrote a letter of complaint to US Airways and about a week later got a reply that they weren't going to deal with me since my wife was the passenger and they were supposedly worried about privacy. Forget that the CC used to purchase the tickets were in my name, that the email listed on the reservations was the same one I was writing from and that it was my spouse we were discussing. So I will cut and paste my original letter into a letter from my wife and send it out again. I'm sure to get a blow off letter back. I am now trying to warn as many people as possible to avoid these hucksters. Fly with some other airline. If the tickets cost a little more, do it anyway. The peace of mind will be well worth it.

This is the worst airline I've ever flew on!! I had a flight (800) to Brazil leaving Charlotte , and was slated to leave at 10:35 pm , then delayed to 11:00 pm , then at 11:30 pm , 12:00 am , and finally announced that it would be 2:00 am. Just imagine not being able to eat or drink (all the airport food services having closed for the night), so after they announced boarding at 1:00 am, we offered a glass of hot water with a minuscule snack. Then the Charlotte airport closed the ladies room , with over 200 people waiting for this flight take off and were unable to use the bathroom. I expected better service from the airport and especially US Airlines!! Everyone there paid good money to the airport and to US Airlines in airport taxes and the cost of the ticket, and yet, US Airlines could not exchanged the aircraft? No, they continued to repair an old , dirty and shabby aircraft. . Imagine a 10 hour trip to Rio de Janeiro in an aircraft, without a television for each passenger, food that was unedible and tasted like pepper, cabin that was old and dirty, and not one flight attendant or check in attendant that spoke Portuguese. Flying to Brazil and yet you can not have Portuguese speaking workers? Are for real? On a 10 hour flight, one who expect a minimal amount of comfort and entertainment. As I am a travel agent and sell many tickets to Brazilians, I will strongly advise them NOT to fly with US Airlines!!! Before buying my tickets, I did some research and checked checked and saw that I would be flying in a Boeing 767 and was pleased and selected to go with US Airlines using my Star Alliance Miles. But when I entered the flight I was in for a rude awakening and was really disappointed as it was not what I saw on the Internet. It is my hope that US Airlines international flights are not this atrocious as I experienced. At the VERY LEAST I expect US Airlines to refund my Star Alliance miles for all the suffering this airline put me through.

I flew from ROC to DCA on an early morning flight. Plane was very clean and the staff was very courteous. Due to taking off 15 minutes late, the crew offered a complimentary second round of drinks! The next day I flew back on a late night flight. Again, the crew was very friendly and I even got a complimentary upgrade to first class because of a weight imbalance (this plane was 34 full, mind you). Being a long time flier of United Airlines, I did not know what to expect on US Airways, but after this trip, I can safely say that United could learn a few things from US Airways.

US Airways is the worst airline in the world. They delayed a flight from Orlando to Philadelphia, connecion to Hartford was missed by 10 minutes, and they refused to hold the connection even though it was the last flight out. The ground staff in Philadelphia was horrible, rude, and incompetent. They would not look at passengers and instead threw paperwork at them which showed the next flight we could take was in 3 DAYS!!! We ended up paying 200 for a rental car so we could get home.US Airways should be shut down.

Took a trip on US airways over the pond and I thought it was a journey back in time. No IFE, a paid for bar: really, it was like Ryanair Transatlantic.Decent price though: I didn't pay a lot of the fare, and the flight was on time and got me there with my bags in one piece. But oh dear, those planes...

This is a late feedback but as you will see I have finally given up on themOur honeymoon holiday was due to departed for Orlando, via Philadelphia from Manchester on 241011 returning 101111.It began with us arriving at Manchester at 06:00, after a 4 hour drive, to discover that our flight had been cancelled and given the fact that they knew there was a problem they had no staff on duty until after 08:00. We were then told we had to travel to Munich to pick up a flight 5 hours later to Philadelphia. We eventually got to Orlando but the main problem was on our return. We arrived in good time for the 17:00 flight with roughly 1.5 hours between flights in Philadelphia. We found out at the gate that our flight was initially 45 minutes which quickly rose to 2 hours, again there was no one on the desk with the only staff around being agency staff on another US Airways gate who did not want to know about our problem and would not contact anyone from US Airways, despite the crowed of people with the same problem building up to over 50.At 16:10 two staff arrived and spent the next 15 minutes on the phone without letting everyone know that they were there to sort out the problems. Eventually we, along with other people, were told that we would only have 40 minutes to get from one terminal in Philadelphia to another Terminal to catch a flight to Heathrow, this due to further flight delays became only 25 minutes, then catch a further flight to Manchester. As my wife has asthma and as some of the other people had disabilities I asked a one member of staff due to the lack of time, could the carts that are used at Philadelphia for disabled people be waiting for us to transport us to the other terminal. After having to force the issue she said that this would be done and was reconfirmed when I challenged her again about this as we handed our boarding pass to her on departure. When we arrive at Philadelphia there were no carts and the staff did not know what we were talking about as no one had contacted them, they said if they had they would have had the carts waiting. We then had to run to the next terminal with us catching the next flight with only 5 minutes to spare. The staff on the next flight had to deal with my wifes asthma attack which was brought on by the amount of running she had to do.When we eventually got back to Manchester and found out that our cases had gone missing. Our cases eventually arrived back on Sunday 13th November one of which had water damage and items missing.Soon after this I started to contact Customer Services and experienced a number of instances of incorrect form filling where they kept mixing up our problems also being totally ignored by Customer Services.Eventually towards the end of February 2012, after managing to contact a more helpful person, our baggage claim was sorted, however we have still not received an explanation or a genuine apology from Customer Services, instead they tried to fob us off with a voucher for a discounted flight, and we will NOT fly with them again

Rude unhelpful, uniformed customer service. Flights to Athens (connecting) departing from DFW through PHL cancelled because of delay due to flight traffic. Rebooked and got there ok. However, return flight from Athens delayed 1 hour. No help from attendants on getting those with immediate connections off first despite delay. Sandwich of mozzarella and pesto served cold (almost frozen). Ran to try to make connection after rushing through customs only to find that the flight was delayed by 2 hours! No update online or on the departure boards about delays. Still reported on time 30 mins after scheduled departure. Every leg of our journey was riddled with delays, unfriendly staff, and poor service. Will never fly with US airways again.
